Starlight Movies Canada and King Tourism will be donating a portion of any net proceeds to the Nobleton Community Hall Board for improvements; the Catholic Women's League of Nobleton are raising money for St. Mary's Church. - Free the Slaves is a non-profit Washington, DC based organization which is dedicated to obliterating slavery through rescue and education. 1-866-324-FREE
- 90 cents of each dollar goes directly to helping free slaves, providing a sanctuary and education.
- There are approximately 27 million human beings held in one form of modern slavery or another world wide. This includes children and adults forced into the sex trade, small local farming and fishing businesses, and the corporate driven manufacturing industry.
- Approximately 2 million children are enslaved in the commercial sex trade. Exploiting poverty, this form of slavery is woven into the local economy of many countries.
- Nearly 300,000 children are forced to serve in bloody armed conflicts around the world. "Kill or be killed" is what these children face on a daily basis.
- An estimated 250 million children work in exploitative labor conditions around the world. From manufacturing sweatshops to domestic service, without choice, these children serve as slaves to industry and the wealthy.[Source: World Vision]
- Recently 25 children living off one small morning meal were freed from slavery in Ghana. These children were sold by their parents to fisherman, some at the tender age of 4. The rescued children were given refuge at Village of Hope Orphanage West Ghana, clean clothes, food and most importantly education which none had had before. Part of the program includes educating the fisherman in new techniques, and re-educating the parents before reuniting them with their long lost children.
- Children are sold into slavery by their parents for as little as $90.00.
- It costs $320.00 to rescue one child from slavery.
- It costs $4,300.00 per rescued child for education and housing, re-education of their masters and parents.
- There is a 94% success rate, which in real terms means that these children are given a chance to live, learn and contribute to society in a meaningful way.
- 6% of children are sold back into slavery by their parents.
- We will adopt one child under the care of World Vision to be educated, given health care and gain self worth. Through the children their entire village has an opportunity to be guided towards self sufficiency and sustainability.
